Man claims he ate, drank nothing for 70 years

SCIENTISTS are studying an 82-year-old man who claims he has not had any food or drink for 70 years.

Prahlad Jani’s claims are being put to the test at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where he is being closely monitored and studied by India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, which believes he may have a quality which could help save lives, The Telegraph reports.

He has so far spent six days without food or water under the strict observation of doctors who say his body is yet to show any signs of hunger or dehydration.

Mr Jani is regarded as a "breatharian" who can live a "spiritual life-force" alone. He believes he is sustained by the "elixir" of a goddess.

The research organisation believes Mr Jani could hold the key to helping soldiers or disaster victims survive without food for longer periods in times of crisis.

"If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science," said Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.

"We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all."

However, others have dismissed Mr Jani as a "village fraud".

Leading Australian nutritionist, Dr Joanna McMillan Price, said the study was a dangerous and pointless exercise.

"What’s the point? To show spiritual strength? You would struggle to go for more than a week without water and without food, your body starts to break down muscle, eventually attacking the heart muscles needed to provide energy to the brain until ultimately you have a heart attack and you die," she said.

Dr McMillan Price says Mr Jani's beliefs probably helped him overcome basic survival instincts but would not physically sustain him.

"Your spiritual beliefs can give mental strength but the idea that spirituality can replace food and water is ludicrous," she said.

"He would certainly be fighting strong physiological responses. Your body starts getting pretty strong hunger pangs after a few days because your brain is telling you that you need to eat or you’ll die."

Dr McMillan Price said she couldn't see Mr Jani lasting any more than a few extra days without water and she said his fasting gave the wrong message.

"The determination he’s showing is certainly a nice message but I really think it could be put to better use than to go without food and water," she said. LINK

NASA Compelling Evidence For Life On Mars

NASA scientists last night unveiled compelling evidence of life on Mars.

A special mission to the Red Planet has revealed the likely presence of a form of pond scum - the building blocks of life as we know it.

NASA unveiled the results of the recent Opportunity and Spirit probes sent millions of miles through the solar system to discover signs of extraterrestrial life.

The results are so promising boffins have already planned a host of other missions to discover whether there is extraterrestrial life in the universe.

The recent missions have gathered evidence of sulphates on Mars, a strong indication there is water on the planet and therefore life.

Previous missions to Mars have concluded there is probably water on the planet.

But the NASA boffins said the recent missions have gone further than any others in proving there is life on Mars.

They were particularly excited about the discovery of a sulphate called gypsum which, it has emerged recently, is found in large quantities among fossils in the Mediterranean.

Jack Farmer, researcher at the Arizona State University, in Tempe, Arizona, said he was "optimistic" there was - or had been - life on Mars.

Another of the scientists Bill Schopf, researcher at the University of California in Los Angeles, added: "One, thanks to Opportunity and the rovers and orbital imaging it is clear that there are literally vast areas of Mars that are carpeted with various sorts of sulphates, including gypsum.

"Two, it turns out on earth there just hasn't been hardly any work done at all to show whether gypsum ever includes within it preserved evidence of former life.

"The age doesn't matter. We just didn't know that fossils and organic matter and things like that were well preserved within gypsum.

"So, three, it turns out that now we have made that first step we are going to find out how widespread it is in other sulphate deposits on earth.

"And those lines of evidence will then give us a way to justify going to Mars and looking at gypsum because it looks as though based on these findings that is going to turn out to be a really excellent place to find evidence of ancient life, regardless of age, if in fact it is there."

Five experts took part in last night's press conference to celebrate 50 years of astrobiology research.

Dr Steve Squyres, of Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, said the only way of being sure there is life on Mars was to bring back a sample of Mars rock.

He also said that the detection of methane in the martian atmosphere - as revealed exclusively by The Sun - raised the possibility that there was still life on Mars today.

"Methane is a molecule that should go away very quickly. We need to send a mission to find out if the source is biological.

"We also need to send a mission to return samples from Mars. That would enable scientists to find out whether Mars might ever have harboured life.

"If we are ever going to show if there was ever life on Mars, I think we're going to have to study samples back on Earth."

Almost 30 other NASA missions to discover life in space - including one to bring back rocks from Mars - have already been planned.

There are also plans to visit Jupiter's moon Europa to explore its deep underground ocean and a moon of Saturn, Enceladus, which spouted ice volcanoes.

Long-term missions will also return to Saturn's biggest moon Titan, sending a balloon flying through its atmosphere and landing a probe in its surface lakes.

Future missions would also visit comets.

NASA scientists have been searching for extraterrestrial life on other planets for some time.

Last November the space organisation launched the Kepler space telescope to look for Earth-size planets in this galaxy.

The telescope is on a three-and-a-half-year mission to find planets.

NASA has so far been able to download data - but many believe there are aliens out there.

British physicist Stephen Hawking said this week aliens might be traveling through the cosmos right now - but he warned they might have evil intentions. Link

'99.9pc certainty' of Noah's Ark discovery on Mount Ararat

CHINESE and Turkish evangelical explorers believe they may have found Noah's Ark - 4000m up a mountain in Turkey.

The team said it had recovered wooden specimens from a structure on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey that carbon dating proved was 4800 years old, around the same time the ark is said to have been afloat.

"It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it," said Yeung Wing-cheung, a Hong Kong documentary filmmaker and member of the 15-strong team from Noah's Ark Ministries International.

The structure had several compartments, some with wooden beams, which were believed to house animals, he said.

The group of evangelical archaeologists ruled out an established human settlement on the grounds that one had never been found above 3500m in the vicinity, Mr Yeung said.

Local Turkish officials would ask the central government in Ankara to apply for UNESCO World Heritage status so the site could be protected while a major archaeological dig was conducted, he added.

The biblical story says God decided to flood the earth after seeing how corrupt it had become, and told Noah to build an ark and fill it with two of every animal species.

After the flood waters receded, the Bible says, the ark came to rest on a mountain. Many believe that Mount Ararat, the highest point in the region, is where the ark and her inhabitants came aground. LINK

Aliens are out there, but they're unlikely to be friendly, says Stephen Hawking

BRITISH astrophysicist Stephen Hawking says aliens are out there, but it could be too dangerous for humans to interact with extraterrestrial life.

Professor Hawking claims in a new documentary that intelligent alien lifeforms almost certainly exist, but warns that communicating with them could be "too risky".

With the universe made up of some 100 billion galaxies each containing hundreds of millions of stars, it was unlikely the Earth was the only place where life has evolved.

"To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational," he said.

"The real challenge is to work out what aliens might actually be like."

The 68-year-old scientist says a visit by extraterrestrials to Earth would be like Christopher Columbus arriving in the Americas, "which didn't turn out very well for the Native Americans".

"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet," he said.

Prof Hawking - who has spent much of his life in a wheelchair suffering from motor neurone disease and talking via a speech synthesiser - said he imagined the aliens were most likely roaming space in giant ships, having exhausted their planets of their resources.

He speculates most extraterrestrial life will be similar to microbes, or small animals, then added that advanced lifeforms may be "nomads, looking to conquer and colonise".

The Discovery Channel will broadcast Stephen Hawking's Universe in Britain next month.

Egypt unearths hoard of bronze coins

ARCHAEOLOGISTS have unearthed 383 bronze coins dating back to King Ptolemy III who ruled Egypt in the 3rd century BC and was an ancestor of the famed Cleopatra.

The Egyptian antiquities authority said in a statement that one side of the coins were inscribed with hybrid Greek-Egyptian god Amun-Zeus, while the other side showed an eagle and the words Ptolemy and king in Greek.

Founded by one of Alexander the Great's generals, the Ptolemaic Dynasty ruled Egypt for some 300 years, fusing Greek and ancient Egyptian cultures.

The coins were found north of Qarun lake in Fayoum Oasis 80 kilometres southwest of Cairo.

Other artifacts were unearthed in the area included three necklaces made of ostrich egg shell dated back to the 4th millennium BC and a pot of kohl eyeliner from the Ottoman Empire.

The objects will all be displayed in the new Egyptian museum under construction near the pyramids of Giza. Link

Documents released show that subjects could be deeply hypnotized over the phone in CIA experiments and made to do things that they would not ordinarily do. The subjects could be made to do this by creating dissociative states or what is commonly referred to as Multiple Personalities.

What this means is that separate personalities could be created in which a subject could do something in one personality and not remember it in another personality.

The document further goes on to state that individuals could be brought into deep hypnosis and be made to do certain activities, ones that they would not ordinarily do, that would be valuable.

Thus, you could conceivably have a person do criminal acts in one personality while having no memory of performing those acts. The person could be made to operate in out of dissociative states if directed by a simple phone call. The person would also be able to pass a lie detector test because he or she would honestly believe that they had not committed any crimes.

This information lends itself to the possibility that the lone nut gunmen, that nearly always seem to be responsible for major political assassinations, are perhaps being occasionally programmed by such a method.

I find it strange that recent political assassinations never seem to involve any type of conspiracy. In reality, human beings operate as social animals, and it would stand to reason that at least some of the time there would be others involved in our recent political hits.For example, in the Lincoln Assassination there were several people that were hanged and others imprisoned for their help in killing the President.

So the ability to manipulate people into doing criminal acts using different personality states is a reality, according to the CIA document. It is not too much of a stretch to think that this technology was used in real wet operations (CIA killings). Croatian teenager wakes from coma speaking fluent German

The girl, from the southern town of Knin, had only just started studying German at school and had been reading German books and watching German TV to become better, but was by no means fluent, according to her parents.

Since waking up from her 24 hourcoma however, she has been unable to speak Croatian, but is able to communicate perfectly in German.

Doctors at Split's KB Hospital claim that the case is so unusual, various experts have examined the girl as they try to find out what triggered the change.

Hospital director Dujomir Marasovic said: "You never know when recovering from such a trauma how the brain will react. Obviously we have some theories although at the moment we are limited in what we can say because we have to respect the privacy of the patient."

Psychiatric expert Dr Mijo Milas added: "In earlier times this would have been referred to as a miracle, we prefer to think that there must be a logical explanation – its just that we haven't found it yet.

"There are references to cases where people who have been seriously ill and perhaps in a coma have woken up being able to speak other languages – sometimes even the Biblical languages such as that spoken in old Babylon or Egypt – at the moment though any speculation would remain just that – speculation – so it's better to continue tests until we actually know something." Second Quake Rocks Australia

Second quake within days hit Australia this time it's a 5.0 with significant damage.

ABOUT a dozen historic buildings and a school have been damaged by an earthquake in the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, in Western Australia's goldfields.

The earthquake hit the Goldfields around 8.20am, closing the Kalgoorlie Super Pit and damaging buildings, PerthNow reported. It measured 5.0 on the Richter scale and is the biggest earthquake to hit the region in half a century, Geoscience Australia says.

The quake occurred one to two kilometres southwest of the Kalgoorlie city centre, but most of the damage was felt in Boulder.

The Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) said about a dozen buildings were damaged in Boulder, mainly on Burt, Moran and Piesse streets.

"A balcony has collapsed at the Golden Eagle Hotel on Lionel Street and there has been damage to the Rock Hotel on Burt Street," FESA said in a statement.

"There has been severe structural damage to Boulder Primary School including a ceiling collapse."

Students were moved to a safer part of the school and were collected by their parents, FESA said.

Firefighters were also called to a gas leak in Boulder.

Two people were treated in hospital for minor injuries at the Kalgoorlie Hospital.

A Geoscience Australia spokesman said the quake was the largest to hit the city, a mining centre 600km east of Perth. Previous earthquakes in the region have not exceeded 4.2 on the Richter scale.

"This is quite a large earthquake for Australia and a shallow, potentially damaging, earthquake," he said.

WA Premier Colin Barnett said the quake had caused some structural damage to schools in the region, which were closed for the day for safety checks.

Largest mine shut

Australia's largest mine, in the heart of Kalgoorlie, the Super Pit gold mine operated by the Barrick/Newmont joint venture called Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines, has been temporarily shut.

Australian Workers Union (AWU) national secretary Paul Howes said first reports suggested that all AWU members were safe.

"AWU officials report that all our people have, it seems, been safely evacuated," Mr Howes said in a statement.

"We're not sure how long the mines will need to be shut down while damage is assessed.

"Certainly, we know now that at the open cut mine there has been some significant rockfalls, and we expect similar problems in the underground mines.

"The union will want to work co-operatively with the mine companies and the WA government to ensure everything is completely safe before miners are asked to restart operations.

"This incident is a huge reminder of the inherent dangers in our industry."

Aftershocks, smaller than the main earthquake, are expected and could cause more damage to weakened structures, FESA said.

Residents in the city have been told to turn off electricity, gas and power and told not to use matches, cigarette lighters or naked flames because of potential gas leaks.

A number of roads in the town have been closed, and people have been told to beware of fallen powerlines and falling debris. Link

Iceland volcano brings floods, travel chaos to Europe

A VOLCANIC eruption in Iceland fired ash across northern Europe bringing chaos to air travel and melting a glacier, causing severe floods.

About 800 people have been forced to evacuate their homes around the Eyjafjallajokull volcano because the flooding cut roads and risked bringing down a bridge.

A huge cloud of ash from the second major eruption in Iceland in less than a month blew eastwards, closing major airports more than 1000 miles (1700km) away in London, where all flights were halted.

Nearly every airport in Norway, Denmark and across northern Sweden was also closed, authorities announced. There was also disruption in Finland.

More than 250 flights out of London's Heathrow and Gatwick airports were cancelled, including transatlantic services. Hundreds of other mainly domestic flights were also hit at airports across Britain.

British airport operator BAA said: "Following advice from the Met Office, the National Air Traffic Service has introduced restrictions to UK airspace this morning as a result of volcanic ash drifting across the United Kingdom from Iceland".

The ash was about eight-10km in the air and could not been seen from the ground. But experts said it was a danger to jet engines and restricted visibility.

Icelandic airports remained open as wind was blowing ash away from the island.

"Flights to and from Iceland are still OK. The wind is blowing the ash to the east," said Hjordis Gudmundsdottir of the Icelandic Airport Authority.

"It's amazing really," she said.

"Things here should be fine for the next 12 hours at least, and we think probably all day, judging from the weather forecast."

The volcano on the Eyjafjallajokull glacier in southern Iceland erupted just after midnight on Wednesday. Smoke coming out of the top crater stacked more than 6km into the sky, meteorologists said.

Icelandic public broadcaster RUV reported that a 500m fissure had appeared at the top of the crater on Wednesday.

Lava melted the glacier, causing major flooding which forced the evacuation of between 700 and 800 people. Evacuees were being directed to Red Cross centres.

"We have two heavy floods coming out from the melting of the Eyjafjallajokull glacier," said police spokesman Roegnvaldur Olafsson.

The eruption in a remote area about 125km east of Reykjavik was bigger than the blast at the nearby Fimmvorduhals volcano last month.

"It is very variable how long these eruptions last. Anywhere from a few days to over a year," said Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, a professor of geophysics and civil protection adviser in Iceland.

"Judging from the intensity of this one, it could last a long time," he added. LINK

The World's Illusion, Spiritual Awakening and Enlightenment

The world around us looks so real, and to proclaim that it is only an illusion may seem sheer nonsense. How can it be? Yet, it is possible to accept this idea. I believe you agree with me, if I say that the body is some sort of an extraordinary machine. It is made up of a combination of materials, but it functions as a unit. Can you say confidently that you are the body? Are you the hair that is cut and thrown away when you go to the hairdresser? Are you your fingers nails, nose, legs or thighs?

The body changes through the years, do you really feel that you are this changing form?

Many thoughts pass through the mind every day. Can you say that you are any one of these thoughts? They are like a movie that plays in front of your eyes. Do you remember what you thought one hour ago? Yesterday? How can these thoughts be the real you if they always come and go? You think them, but you are not them.

The same thing goes for your feelings. What do you think is more correct to say, "I am angry", "I am sad", "I am happy" or "I am letting feelings of anger, sadness or happiness to occupy my consciousness for a while"? As with thoughts, feelings and emotions pass through you, they come and they go. You cannot be your feelings, which constantly change.

Then who are you? After reading the above, do you still believe that you the body, feeling and thoughts, or something beyond them? To know who you really are, you have to take your awareness beyond the mind. The answer comes when you are able to transcend your mind. Spiritual traditions and experience say that you are an inseparable part of the eternal, impersonal consciousness that created the world and infused life into everything, including this conglomeration of body, feelings and thoughts that you call "me".

This homogenous, indivisible, impersonal Consciousness manifests in and through everything. It is the life principle of the manifestation that you consider to be yourself. The manifestation, which is the combination of body, thoughts and feelings, is nothing without this life principle. This Life Principle - Consciousness, is the only real thing, and every manifestation is created by it, and therefore is dependent on it.

Can you become aware of this Consciousness? When you develop some inner detachment and inner peace, you will be able to turn your attention within you, instead of to the external world, and then you will become aware of the Consciousness that is beyond the mind.

Silence of the mind is the prerequisite for becoming aware of this Consciousness. Only when the mind is silenced and there are no thoughts, you realize who you really are - the vast, eternal Consciousness.

This is also what has been called enlightenment. This is what yogis, saints and seekers on the spiritual path seek. Through constant meditation the mind is made quiet. Then, from deep inside will rise great silence, peace, bliss and consciousness. Then you will know who you really are. This is enlightenment.

The way to spiritual awakening is open for everyone. Only attachment and erroneous thoughts and concepts hide it. It can come suddenly, and it can come gradually. The funny thing is that you do not have to search for it, and you do not need to reach anywhere. All you have to do is dive within with a quiet mind, become aware of this inner, eternal underlying consciousness and stay there.

If you watch a movie with inner detachment, you can still enjoy it, yet you are not agitated by what happens in it. You know it is just a movie, the projection of light and color on a screen. After gaining inner peace and silence, and becoming aware of your real I, you see the world and live in it, but yet, at the same time you understand that it is not real. This helps you stay calm and detached in all kinds of situations.

When you are spiritually awakened, nothing can affect your mind and moods. You may still need to work and interact with other people and the world around you, yet you will do so while remaining uninvolved in consciousness, as if outside of the world.

The mind and its thoughts create your world - the illusion you are living in. Thoughts and imagination are creative, and therefore mold and affect your world. As your thoughts are, so is your world.

When you awaken to your real Consciousness, you will be able to master your mind and thoughts, and therefore if needed, be able to change your illusion - your world, through the creative power of your mind. By focusing your mind on the thoughts you choose, you can affect your "reality" accordingly.

You might say that after spiritual awakening you will be beyond the world's illusion, and material things will not matter any more. This is true, but yet, the illusion has to be lived. You have to eat, pay bills and take care of the body. It is true, you will approach these matters in a completely different way, but you will still need to take care of them. Even an enlightened master has to eat, drink and sleep.

Going beyond the mind, beyond the illusion of the world, puts a great power and responsibility in your hands, for then you have the power to affect the world. UN Judge Calls For Prosecution Of Pope Benedict

Geoffrey Robertson, a renowned human rights lawyer and United Nations jurist, wants to see Pope Benedict put on trial for allegedly protecting predator priests.

In a Guardian UK piece making its rounds this week in Catholic circles, Robertson demanded the pope be "put in the dock" so that the church might "feel the full weight of international law" over its thousands of pedophilia scandals.

The pope's conduct, he said, "amounted to the criminal offence of aiding and abetting sex with minors," making Benedict a justifiable target for either the International Criminal Court or a British court acting under the legal principal of universal jurisdiction.

Other international figures who've recently been pursued by various courts under universal jurisdiction include several former Bush administration attorneys and former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld for the torture of terror war prisoners, along with Israeli officials who helped launch the 2008 Gaza offensive.

"Universal jurisdiction — a concept in international law — allows judges to issue warrants for nearly any visitor accused of grievous crimes, no matter where they live," the Associated Press reported. "British judges have been more open to the concept than those in other countries."

"In legal actions against Catholic archdioceses in the US it has been alleged that the same conduct reflected Vatican policy as approved by Cardinal Ratzinger (as the pope then was) as late as November 2002," Robertson wrote. "Sexual assaults were regarded as sins that were subject to church tribunals, and guilty priests were sent on a 'pious pilgrimage' while oaths of confidentiality were extracted from their victims."

He continued: "The UN at its inception refused membership to the Vatican but has allowed it a unique 'observer status', permitting it to become signatory to treaties such as the Law of the Sea and (ironically) the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and to speak and vote at UN conferences where it promotes its controversial dogmas on abortion, contraception and homosexuality. This has involved the UN in blatant discrimination on grounds of religion: other faiths are unofficially represented, if at all, by NGOs. But it has encouraged the Vatican to claim statehood – and immunity from liability."

"Robertson insisted that the ICC could be used as long as the Pope’s sovereign immunity was waived and as long as jurists can show that the sex abuse scandal was carried out on a 'widespread or systematic scale,' the way that child soldiers were used in the wars in Sierra Leone and the way that sex slaves are traded internationally," The Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute added.

The Catholic League of Australia was quick to launch a spirited defense of the pope, suggesting that Benedict's accusers have no evidence.

"Robertson is a Human Rights lawyer who should know better than to suggest that charges of crime should be levelled without any evidence," they opined. "Unfortunately for Mr. Robertson his desire to create controversy and his own gossip does not constitute as a source of law. Mr. Robertson also bizarrely suggests that the Vatican is not a country. He conveniently 'forgets' that 179 countries recognise the Vatican as a sovereign state. Mr. Robertson’s effort to create controversy and create publicity for himself has blinded his judgement."

For its part, The New York Times reported Saturday that as a Cardinal, Ratzinger seemed to be resisting efforts to defock a priest who molested children, waiting six long years before any action was taken.

"The matter was one of several recently reported instances in which documents have indicated that Benedict or his subordinates failed to act strongly against abuser priests — a failing that Vatican officials, cardinals and many bishops have heatedly rejected," the paper added. "The reports have surfaced amid a wave of disclosures about past sexual abuses by Roman Catholic priests around Europe." Link

UFO hacker Gary McKinnon’s mum to stand against Jack Straw

Janis Sharp, from Brookmans Park, said she blamed Mr Straw for pushing through the UK’s controversial extradition treaty with the US, which could see her son Gary McKinnon sent to America to face trial.

If convicted of hacking, Asperger’s sufferer Gary, 44, could face up to 60 years in a federal prison.

Janis, who has fought an eight year battle to keep her son in the UK, will be standing as an independent candidate at the General Election and said she will be providing a voice for civil liberties.

Last year Home Secretary Alan Johnson said he could NOT block Gary’s extradition to the US on mental health grounds.

A judicial review of his decision will be take place at the High Court in London on May 25 and 26.

Prosecutors in America allege that Gary caused nearly £500,000 worth of damage to military computers in 2001 and 2002.

Glasgow-born Gary, who lives in North London, admits hacking but maintains he was looking for evidence of alien life. Link

Clinically dead boy 'saw grandma in heaven'

A three-year-old boy brought back from the dead after his heart stopped beating for three hours has told how he allegedly saw his great-grandmother in heaven.

The youngster - who is named only as Paul - claimed he met his relative and she sent him back to Earth.

Paul was playing on his own when he fell into a lake near his grandparents' house in the town of Lychen, north of Berlin, Germany.

The child's grandfather later found him lifeless in the water.

Paul was quickly dragged to the shore but the youngster remained unconscious.

His father, who had had first aid training in the past, tried to resuscitate his son by giving him mouth to mouth and heart massage.

A helicopter took him to Helios hospital in Buch and doctors also tried to resuscitate him but he was unresponsive.

They were about to stop because the boy had been clinically dead for three hours and 18 minutes - but then a miracle happened.

The team managed to get his heart beating again, defying the laws of medicine.

The water in the lake was cold and the boy's core temperature was just 28C - it should normally be 37C.

If the temperature had been higher, the team would have stopped trying to resuscitate after 40 minutes because the boy would definitely have been brain dead.

Cold temperatures means the metabolism slows so body can survive with little oxygen.

Professor of Paediatrics, Lothar Schweigerer, is from the Helios hospital in Buch.

"My doctors were close to saying 'we can do no more' after two hours of thorax compression," he told Sky News UK.

"The chances of survival had gone and the little lad must have been brain dead.

"Then suddenly his heart started to beat again, it was a fantastic miracle." Link

Earth Quake Hits Indonesia

AN earthquake measuring 7.8-magnitude has been recorded off the North Sumatra in Indonesia.

The USGS upgraded the tremor from 7.6-magnitude to 7.8-magnitude.

A "destructive widespread tsunami" was not expected, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre told CNN, but a local tsunami warning has been issued and could affect coastal areas near the earthquake's epicentre.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Antarctica by the Bureau of Meteorology.

There is no tsunami warning for the Australian mainland, the Bureau said.

At least three aftershocks have been felt across Aceh, the ABC reports.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damages from the earthquake.
